Sydney entrepreneur and venture capital investor Sam Benjamin is to re-launch online produce marketplace for restaurants Providoor in a new guise.
Providoor went into administration in April. Benjamin, who runs Seventh Street Ventures, has since bought the name and customer list from administrators RSM for $250,000.
Now Providoor is to be re-launched, as a provider of home delivered signature dishes created by celebrity chefs. The meals are to be prepared in Providoor’s own kitchens and delivered, ready to eat or frozen, by Seventh Street Ventures’ existing restaurant quality home delivered meals business Kaspa.
Chefs who will create dishes for Providoor include Luke Nguyen, Manu Feidel, Matt Preston, Silvia Colloca, Anna Polyviou and George Calombaris.
The original Providoor business was co-founded by celebrity chef Shane Delia as an online marketplace where restaurateurs could order high quality produce. During the COVID-19 lockdown the company introduced a service providing home deliver meals from selected restaurants.
But Providoor ran into trouble after COVID restrictions ended.
Kaspa is one of batch of business Seventh Street Ventures has built “from the ground up”.
Others include youth-focused Brag Media, the Australia and New Zealand licensee of Rolling Stone magazine and three early childhood education centres.
